Stuck in My Head Volume 2

So many great summer songs released in the past few weeks. These are some of my favorites to jam to while driving with the windows down. Let me know what were some of your favorite releases these past few weeks below!

ITZY - ICY

Just like their debut song, Dalla Dalla, ICY is a song composed of various pieces. From the first listen, it is hard to orient yourself as it goes from one element to another. The instrumental is filled with noise and layers of synths and percussion, but that is part of the song’s charm. With unflagging energy and a shot of attitude, ICY is proof ITZY has come to stay.

Oh My Girl - Bungee (Fall in Love)

From the get go, Bungee is a great girl group summer track especially paired with Cosmic Girls’ Boogie Up. Beginning with the classic summer guitar, Bungee has bouncy verses paired with breezy energetic choruses giving us that summer vibe without the typical tropical EDM sound. This isn’t Oh My Girl’s best work, nevertheless Bungee is a good summer song.

Seventeen - Hit

A much needed energetic song for the summer. Seventeen comes back with a banger of a song. Even with a generic EDM drop chorus, the instrumental is filled with hard-hitting electronics that match the intense energy of the song. I really love how the verse and pre-chorus really build up the momentum. However, the absence of a chorus keeps the song from being truly amazing.

NCT Dream - BOOM

I must admit that NCT is not really my taste. However, BOOM is a different sound from NCT Dream’s previous releases. The song opens with minimal percussion and rap that doesn’t immediately grab the listener’s attention. From there, the song takes off with a melodic pre-chorus into staccato vocal repetition of boom underlined by a sick bass line.

HA:TFELT (Feat. Moonbyul of Mamamoo) - Happy Now

I’ve been really enjoying HA:TFELT releases under Amoeba Culture. The song exudes a quirky, fun vibe. Happy Now’s instrumental combines a whimsical sound with future bass and is the reason I really enjoy this song. Moonbyul’s lengthy rap elevates the song straight into my playlist.

Tiffany Young - Magnetic Moon

Tiffany’s latest release isn’t KPop, but as a SONE I had to put this in. Sung entirely in English, Magnetic Moon is an electro-disco track infused with modern pop. The song relies on the mood of the track rather than on vocals alone. The song is nostalgic yet timeless with disco vibes, but with a modern edm twist.

Pink Fantasy - Fantasy

I really like Dreamcatcher’s sound, so when my friend brought up Pink Fantasy’s new song I was intrigued. Fantasy sounds like GFriend’s melodies mixed with Dreamcatcher. I really liked the orchestral touches and the rock guitar giving the song a rock opera feel.

Rocket Punch - Bim Bam Bum

A new girl group from Woolim (Infinite, Lovelyz, Golden Child), Rocket Punch delivers a solid, but generic KPop song. Tropical EDM sound is definitely overdone nowadays, but I haven’t totally grown sick of it yet. The saving grace for me is that the song keeps adding new elements to the melody as the song goes on. The bridge into the climactic chorus is the highlight for me.

The Rose - Red

The Rose caught my attention with their unique vocals. I was excited to hear they were releasing a new song as I’ve been wanting more ever since She’s in the Rain. Red goes for the anthemic feel I love in music. The song gives me a Coldplay’s Every Teardrop is a Waterfall vibe. I love the chorus followed by the instrumental drop and I wished that it appeared more than twice in the song. Red’s carefree sound is perfect for driving around with your windows down in the evening.

Raiden (Feat. Irene of Red Velvet) - The Only

As a Reveluv, hearing Irene was going to feature in a song instantly piqued my interest. Not known to have many singing lines on Red Velvet tracks, Irene gets to demonstrate her vocal talent on Raiden’s track. Irene’s vocals are sweet and tender and compliment the instrumentals.

The track isn’t breaking any new ground in music, but the song gives an endearing and uplifting vibe to it which is my kind of chill EDM.
